The lowdown on travel insurance

Nov 21

There are four different types of basic travel insurance, although many companies offer additional options. You decide which kind of policy suits your needs.

  1. Trip cancellation insurance: Just as the name implies, this insurance covers your costs if the trip is canceled. This coverage helps you if you’re going on a cruise or a group tour and the company responsible goes out of business. You also may get some of your expenses refunded if an illness or injury interrupts your travel and forces you to return home. Each plan is different, so make sure you check the fine print closely to get the exact amount of coverage you want.
  2. Baggage and personal effects insurance: This insurance plan covers your belongings if they’re stolen, lost or damaged. This type of insurance is very inexpensive, but possibly unnecessary as airlines offer automatic coverage for some losses and damage and your homeowner’s insurance may pick up some of your other expenses.
  3. Emergency medical insurance: You’ll be covered if you suffer an injury or an illness that requires hospital care or even a stay in a foreign country. You’ll also be covered if you’re ill enough that an emergency trip home is necessary. Fortunately, these situations are extremely rare and this insurance usually isn’t necessary, but if you’re worried, check with your regular insurer first to see what its policy is.
  4. Accidental death insurance: A pretty self-explanatory insurance and usually not worth the expense. Most people have life insurance policies so this is just duplicate coverage that may do you no good. Also, if you’re using your credit card to pay for the trip, you may be covered.

So if you are a little leery about your next trip, consider getting some travel insurance but make sure you pick a policy that actually suits your needs.

Planning a Group Fishing Trip

Sep 13

Group fishing trips are always a load of fun; getting together with your friends and/or family to climb aboard a fishing boat or hike out to the river, rooting for each other to catch the next big winner, and talking over a dinner table loading with your catch is a bonding experience that everyone should participate in at least once in their lifetime.

When you begin to plan your trip, take everyone’s likes and dislikes into consideration. For example, f the majority of your fishing party suffers from unbearable seasickness, then you may want to plan a fly fishing getaway instead of an open sea deepwater fishing trip.

Fly fishing is a lot of fun and a fantastic way to get in tune with nature as you cast your line and talk with your friends. Wearing almost waist-high boots and wading out into the river, you and your fishing party are usually surrounded by towering trees, soaring birds, and the sound of only the river rushing down its path. Depending on where you live, one big advantage to river fly fishing is that you may not have to travel too far: chances are that, within an hour or two’s drive from your front door, you’ll find a rushing river teeming with with river trout, salmon, pike, panfish, and more.

If you’re looking for a fishing trip full of adrenaline and adventure, try your hand at saltwater fishing. Almost nothing beats climbing onto your boat, greeted by your captain, and braving the waves to catch tuna, marlin, shark, and more. Deep sea fishing trips generally take more effort to plan, as boats, guides, and extended lodging options for your group can be complicated affiars. But it’s worth it, as you’re sure to be telling stories of the Great Adventure for years and years to come.

Destination Family Reunion

Aug 05

As the years pass families grow and expand and tend to grow apart. For some families the only time they all get together is that rare family reunion. And how much fun is a family reunion anyway? You are forced to try Aunt Mildred’s rancid potato salad and smile and nod as your Uncle Phil gives you a detailed description of his recent battle with gout.  If you’re looking for a way to improve the quality of your family reunion and boost attendance, consider a destination reunion. Each family is different so no destination reunion will suit every family but there are several different routes you can take. The Ancestry Tour: Go back to your family roots. If there is a family historian have them suggest the a few locations. Perhaps you could visit the first place your family resided when they arrived in the United States. Maybe a family member was once a political leader or influential person in a community and it could be time to relive the glory days.  Family Fun Vacation: If your family has a lot of younger members then the home of the Mouse might be a big hit with everyone. Don’t forget to let the travel agent, hotel, and theme park know you’re bringing a large group and you’re more than happy to take advantage of any and all discounts they want to make available to you. If Mickey isn’t quite what you’re looking for then how about a regional hotel with a water park, or a smaller amusement park, either of these locations is bound to offer you a decent group discount. Adult Playtime: If you have an older family group how about a trip to the biggest adult playground in the world, Las Vegas. The city is not just known for its gambling, late night parties, and shows, it’s also known for offering incredible group deals and discounts. Scoop some of the bargains up and create some family bonding memories that will last forever.
