If you’re traveling to Costa Rica, make it a point to visit Manuel Antonio National Park at some point during your vacation. Located 100 miles south of San Jose, it’s ideally situated between the beach and the rain forest and offers a host of recreational activities including sportfishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing, sea kayaking, river rafting, mountain biking, horseback riding or just relaxing on white-sand beaches.
In other words, you’re sure to find something that will appeal to everyone in your group.
The smallest of Costa Rica’s 20 national parks in Costa Rica, Manuel Antonio ranks second for the volume of visitors. In an attempt to preserve the grounds and the wildlife, the park has limited the number of visitors during the week to 600 per day and 800 per day on the weekends.
Manuel Antonio contains rain forest, beaches and coral reefs. The beaches, lined with lush forest, are the most beautiful in the country and the snorkeling is excellent. The forest is home for sloths, iguanas, squirrel monkeys and millions of crabs. The park is easy to reach, though if you’re renting a car you’ll want a 4 X 4.
If you’re an adrenaline junkie, a forest canopy tour will send you soaring from tree to tree giving you a unparalleled view of the rain forest. If you are seeking a more relaxed activity, kayaking along the coast side is an option. Or perhaps you can meet in the middle, and charter a boat to fish for marlin and sailfish. Lodging options are abundant and there is something that will accommodate every budget. For more information on Manuel Antonio National Park, visit www.manuelantoniopark.com.
