The Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens is a great destination for a group excursion, whether you’re taking a bunch of kids, a group of colleagues or just a large gang of your friends. Who can resist seeing a cuddly koala, the chimpanzees or those fascinating zebras? But for those with different tastes, there’s always the Madagascan hissing cockroach, the desert tarantula or the Chinese alligator.
Apart from taking a leisurely stroll around the zoo, there’s also the option of riding the Safari Shuttle. It has six different stops around the gardens and can take you quickly from one end of the zoo to the other. When you’re hungry, there are a number of food outlets, including the Safari Cafe at the entrance, the Gorilla Grill for lunch and La Casita if your group’s keen on Mexican food.
The LA Zoo considers groups to consist of 15 or more people, and there is a considerable discount for group-rate tickets. Normal adult entry costs $10 per person, but this drops to $7 in a group, and the price for children (aged 2 to 12) drops from $5 to $4. It’s not even necessary to register the group beforehand - you’ll be able to buy group-rate tickets with your group at the gate. If you want a guided tour for your group, though, you’ll have to arrange that ahead of time.
