The Bronx Zoo in New York is the largest metropolitan zoo in the country, so you need to plan a full day to be able to get to everything that you really want to see. There are over 4000 animals so this really might not be easy! The thing I like about the Bronx Zoo is it was a bit of a pioneer in taking animals out of nasty steel cages and creating enclosures that better mimic the natural environment. Since then, many zoos around the world have followed suit, and that’s a great thing for these animals.

Some of the highlights at the Bronx Zoo include the African Plains, the Butterfly Garden, the Congo Gorilla Forest, the Sea Lion Pool and the Wild Asia Monorail. There is also a big range of daily demonstrations and feeding events to see: check the schedule on the day you visit to make sure you catch the penguin feeding, tiger enrichment sessions and the daily primate training.

If you’re traveling with a school group, a fairly complicated school groups admission policy applies - sometimes students are admitted free, sometimes not. For regular adult group trips, you can get a discount package if your group has 10 or more members, and this applies for normal admission as well as Holiday Lights evenings in winter.
