Want to take your baseball or softball team on the most perfect trip ever? Then get them along to Pennsylvania for a visit to the Peter J. McGovern Little League Museum in South Williamsport. It traces the history and excitement of the Little League since it began back in 1939.

Exhibits at the Little League Museum talk about players, the rules and equipment using pictures, films and hands-on demonstrations. Visitors can practice batting and pitching and then study their technique on the instant replay, and they can also play the role of commentators for a World Series game. There are also quizzes to try, a running track and a fiber optic map that dramatically shows the development of Little League across the world.

And then there’s a Hall of Excellence which looks at Little League graduates who’ve gone on to do good things in life - not necessarily in baseball. George W Bush, for example, makes the list, especially after he said Little League had provided his finest childhood memories; Rudolph Giuliani is there too, and he used to play in the Garden City South Little League in Long Island. You’ll learn that Kevin Costner had a pitching career at the Saticoy Little League of Ventura, California, and Bruce Springsteen used to play in New Jersey.

Standard entry fee is only $1.50 for children and $5 for adults, but cheaper group rates are available. You can hold children’s birthday parties at the Little League Museum, too.
