Not only is it a National Historic Landmark, a visit to the Adler Planetarium in Chicago is quite simply a great day out. It’s one of the oldest planetariums still existing today and the only museum of any kind in the world to have two full-size planetarium theaters - you know, those dazzling, neck-craning ceilings full of even more than the sky usually seems to hold. The second theater is used to take you beyond the night sky and into the depths of outer space.

The Adler Planetarium also bills itself as an astronomy museum and a gallery for space travel, too: in fact, the the restored Gemini 12 spacecraft flown by NASA astronauts Jim Lovell and Buzz Aldrin is exhibited here. And then there are meteorites, telescopes old and new, and a collection of several hundred sundials.

Entry costs are dependent on what you want your group to see, starting with exhibits only, or adding one planetarium show plus an audio tour to create the Galaxy Package, or the deluxe version called the Universe Package that includes both theater shows. Adler Group Sales also offers group packages that combine with other Chicago attractions, such as the “Chicago Starry Nights” package which adds a three-hour dinner cruise to an evening at the planetarium. It’s also possible to hold private, catered events there; so for a group of fifty or even a thousand people, it’s possible to provide a special dinner or a simpler reception on site at the Adler Planetarium.
