The Hayden Planetarium, located in New York City’s Central Park West, adjacent to the American Museum of Natural History is a fun and educational destination for visitors of all ages.
The Building
The building, completed in 2000, is a dome inside a glass cube. The upper half of the dome houses the Star Theater, a facility that uses full dome video technology to project “Space Shows.” The bottom half of the dome is home to the Big Bang Theater, which features a continuously running four-minute film about the birth of the universe.
Exhibits
Additional exhibits at the Planetarium include “Sonic Vision,” an exhibit that illustrates visual images created by the sound waves generated by your favorite pop songs.

The Hayden Planetarium is open every day, except for Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, from 10am to 545pm. Admission, which includes entance to the American Museum of Natural History next door, is $15 for adults, $11 for students and seniors, and $8.50 for those under 12. The “Space Shows” carry an additional admission charge.
