Oglebay Winter Festival of Lights

For more than 20 years now, the Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, WV has been hosting the Festival of Lights, a jolly way to kick off the holiday season, particularly if you live in the Pennsylvania/Ohio/West Virginia region.

Since its inception, the Festival of Lights has expanded to cover more than 300 acres along a six-mile drive. Some of the popular displays the Poinsettia Wreath, which is the festival’s tallest display standing close to 60 feet tall, and the “Snowflake Tunnel” where thousands of lights emulate twinkling snowflakes.

New this year is “Gardens of Light,” which features 150 hanging baskets of lights emulating flowers from every season. In addition to the hanging baskets of flowers, the neighboring trees and flowers are lighted and all is choreographed to festive holiday music.

The Winter Festival of Lights runs nightly from dusk to 11pm and a small donation per vehicle covers the whole season so you can go as many times as you wish. If your group is bundled up and dressed warmly, trolley tours are offered up several times throughout the night and seats are sold on the day of the tour.
