Farmers’ markets have been growing in popularity throughout the United States over the past few years. This is because we are increasingly aware of the importance of organic farming, eating local foods, and supporting small artists and craft makers. We are also increasingly interested in developing a sense of community in our areas. But farmers’ markets aren’t a new thing. The Pike Place Market, one of Seattle’s biggest tourist destinations and the country’s longest-running farmers’ market, was set up 100 years ago. It is a destination which offers a great amount of history to visitors while also introducing them to the local community.
Pike Place Market is a large multi-level marketplace in downtown Seattle. Everyone in your group can find something of interest to them whether it’s a conversation with a local organic farmer or a hot new comic book sold by one of the small vendors on the downstairs shopping level. Kids can play in the arcade, adults can browse through used books and everyone can enjoy the food and snacks to be found here. It’s a fun place, but it’s also an educational destination, giving your group more knowledge about environmental issues while also letting you know all about Seattle’s history.

Pike Place Market is also located in close proximity to other Seattle destinations so your group will have plenty to do once the adventures of the marketplace are done for the day. Visit the Seattle Aquarium, walk along the waterfront, and check out the architecture of the historic neighborhoods in the area. The Pike Place Market is open every day of the year so get your group ready and get going.
