Looking for a great travel destination for you church group or religious retreat? St. Mary’s Basilica in Phoenix Arizona is the oldest standing church in the Phoenix area. Erected in 1881 and completed in 1914, this Franciscan Catholic Community Church is located at 3rd and Monroe Street in downtown Phoenix.

The church’s calendar of events is available online at www.stmarysbasilica.org. The building has a rich history and interesting architecture, from its beautifully rendered stained glass windows (Arizona’s largest stained glass window collection) and a carillon tower. The church is still very active with daily masses, baptisms and weddings. St. Mary’s provides a community breakfast meal program for those in need - feeding over 150 people each day.

In 1978 Pope John Paul II visited this church and it was declared a National Historic Site. Public tours are conducted each Wednesday after the noon Mass. Private tours can be arranged by appointment (Phone - 602-354-2100).
