In a city with dozens of sensational attractions, New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art stands apart. Home to one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive art collections, the museum houses more than 2 million objects, spanning over 2,000 years of history and covering virtually every corner of the globe.

The Collection
Highlights include 17 Van Gogh paintings; more than 2,300 paintings by European masters, including Vermeer, Botticelli, and Velasquez; the Temple of Dendur, an authentic Egyptian temple given to the United States by Egypt in appreciation of their help in constructing the Aswan Dam; period rooms, including an Arts and Crafts style room by Frank Lloyd Wright and a 15th-Century studio from the Ducal Palace in Gubbio, Italy; and the largest collection of Asian art and artifacts in the west.

Hours and Admission
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is located on Fifth Avenue at 82nd St., on Manhattan’s Upper East Side at the edge of Central Park. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays, except for January 1, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Hours vary.

Suggested admission is $20 for adults, $15 for those 65 and older, and $10 for students. Children under 12 are admitted free.
