A travel diary is a great way to commemorate a trip. For group travel, the travel journal can be even more special. It not only reminds everyone of the fun that they had together on the trip but also gives them insight into what the others in the group got out of the experience. Years from now, you might have all gone your separate ways, but you’ll occasionally take out that old trip journal and fondly remember the times that you enjoyed together.
The one major problem that comes up with creating a group travel diary is that many people in the group may not like to write. There’s a way around that. If everyone agrees that a trip diary would be nice to have but that they don’t want to commit to writing daily throughout the trip, you can suggest that there are other mediums which are just as important to the journal. Designate someone to be the photographer. Designate another to collect the ticket stubs, souvenir pennies and memorabilia. Designate another to capture video and/or audio of the trip to be incorporated later as transcripts or within slide shows. And encourage everyone to save their emails, text messages and letters from the trip to be included in the book.
As a final part of the travel diary, have everyone write a postcard to themselves from the trip. Most people won’t mind jotting down a few sentences about what the best part of the trip was. Collect these along with the rest at the end and create a travel journal. This might be a group experience, in which you gather together to assemble the diary. Or it may be a solo project that you do for the group. Either way, the result will be a bound book of memories to treasure.
