Finding somewhere to eat during a group travel vacation can often be one of the most headache-inducing parts of the trip. One reason for this is that many groups forget to plan ahead in this area and then don’t know what to do once they get to their destination and find out that no restaurant has room for them. Here are some tips for finding group-friendly restaurants no matter what city you take your travels to:

•Plan ahead. If you know for sure where you’re going, especially if you’ve already booked your hotel, then you can do some online searching in advance to find group-friendly restaurants in the area.

•Make reservations. Even if you’ve just arrived in a city, you can often call around to local restaurants and make same day reservations that will accommodate large groups. You can even just stop in to a restaurant, make the reservations and then kill the waiting time by doing local shopping or going to check in to your hotel.

•Look for buffets. Buffets, pizza joints and other places that require less wait staff service are generally able to meet the needs of groups.

•Break into smaller groups. If you’re hoping to get a taste of the local food but can’t fit your group in to one spot, consider breaking up in to smaller groups and going to several restaurants. A great idea is to agree to bring some leftovers to the rest of the group. Pick items like cold sandwiches that can be taken with you for the lunch the next day so you get the benefit of experiencing different local restaurants without the added cost.

•It doesn’t hurt to ask. Locals in the area will know which restaurants are likely to be able to accommodate your group so don’t be afraid to ask for advice if you find that you’re in a dining bind. City Visitors Bureaus frequently have this information.
